Covergirl Yummy Plumper Gloss Review & Swatches

I’m not sure who needs to hear this but Covergirl Yummy Gloss is now available in a plumping formula! Yup, it’s true we got a Covergirl Yummy Plumper Gloss formula now available in 14 vibrant shades. I say vibrant because they’re actually way more pigmented than the original Yummy Lipgloss formula! I guess it should be any surprise that Covergirl decided to do a plumping formula with the success of NYX Duck Plump and Maybelline Lifter Plump Lip Plumping Gloss that launched a few months ago. Sure, Covergirl is a little late getting on the viral trend that Maybelline created to try and bring back plumping formulas but considering what a great formula Yummy Gloss is I’m not complaining. You know I love the original Yummy Gloss formula and adored the Covergirl Yummy Gloss Daylight which made me pretty excited to check out the Yummy Plumper Gloss formula.

I gotta through it out there and say I actually like the originally Yummy Gloss better than Yummy Plumper Gloss. Yes, the new formula is WAY more pigmented but there’s something oddly off about it. Just a little something that I don’t love about the formula. Let’s dig deeper below!

This comes in the same chubby barrel as the original with the large doe-foot applicator. It’s 0.33 oz in size and the price is around $10-$13 depending where you purchase it. The original formula launched at around the same price range of $11 bucks for the same size. Since that time it did go a bit lower and can be purchased for around $8.99 and again that price depends where you buy it. Don’t quote me but as I recall the original formula only came in a few shades and this new formula has 14 to choose from. Which brings up the topic of pigment…! The original formula is a love for me! I adore it! But I def did not need to go and buy all the shades as they all apply transparently with little to no pigment. This new formula is quite pigmented. I only one shade but it’s safe to say many of the shades are going to provide a ton more color than the original.

The original formula is super shiny and glossy with a hydrating and gel-like consistency that applied with a light balminess. It also, wore for a sold four hours. This new formula is completely different. It’s creamy yet has a liquid consistency and a slight golden pearl sheen. I got the shade Encourage-mint which is a warm pink with fine gold pearl. It has a strong minty methanol flavor and a bit of a sting once applied so, they are relying on the mint to irritate your lips to produce the “plumping” effect. I’m so used to using plumping formulas that I’m not bothered by them at all but sensitive users should be aware this produces a little sting to it which isn’t long lasting. Did it plump? Eh…! A little but nothing dramatic as the promises 35% volume!

Let’s talk shine! This is incredibly shiny! Super glossy! I love, love, love it. It has a balmy, thick texture that wasn’t tacky nor sticky and felt very soothing and hydrating on my dry lips. And did I mention how glossy it was? Yes, please and thank you! It also happens to wear quite long. My lips were pleasantly shiny for nearly four hours without eating or drinking! It has excellent pigment as I said above with plenty of color and it wears an hour or so. It does seem to slip away fairly fast. It’s creamy yet not sticky or tacky but sort of gloopy which is one reason I think it applies messy. I did find it runs around my mouth. Almost immediately upon applying it I noticed it was bleeding outside my lip line. The formula is a bit too liquid-y which makes application a bit messy. I don’t wear lipliner but that could prevent it from migrating outside your lip line. In my case, I found myself just wiping it off my bottom lip line where the worst migration occurred (oddly, the top was fine). It provides beautiful shine and the same glossiness as the original but that weird feathering issue is a pain.

Covergirl Yummy Plumper Gloss is an exciting launch as if you love Yummy Gloss I’m sure you were like me and praying for the same formula with more pigment. This has the pigment but the formula isn’t the same and fails to capture the magic of the original. Oh well! If you really want to try it you can snag it at Amazon on sale during their Beauty Haul Sale for $6.46 which is almost 50% Off!

Covergirl Yummy Plumper Gloss is a new plumping version of Yummy Lipgloss that launched in 14 shades with a formula that has a minty cooling sensation which provides 35% plumper lips. It’s the pretty standard plumping formula that uses mint to irritate lips into being plumper. Did it do it? Eh! It was ok! It gave a fuller lip but nothing dramatically different than my own lip size and shape when using lipgloss. This is a creamy consistency than the original formula with a strong minty methanol flavor that did sting. I thought the formula was a bit too liquid-y which I believe led to the feathering issue I had. This stuff would simply not stay on my lips and kept migrating below my lower lip line. The top wasn’t too bad but the bottom it kept sliding down and making a bit of a mess. Lipliner may prevent this but I don’t wear lipliner so it was frustrating. Since the formula is creamy but a bit too liquid-y this resulted in it wearing or a shorter time (about an hour before it just got too messy to wear and I had to wipe it off). It is quite pigmented which the original formula was lacking but I do think the original formula had a much better consistency, texture, and wear.

Pros

  • Feathering, migrating issues.
  • Short wear.
  • Stings.
  • Unpleasant minty methanol flavor.

Cons

  • Pigmented.
  • Good selection of shades.
